Blue wood asters

Symphyotrichum cordifolium (formerly Aster cordifolius) - a widely-spread North American native perennial, in the Prospect Park woods near Rick's Place yesterday. They are stunning.

There are not many patches of them here - these were clustered near a log at the top of The Slope where we find so much litter on the slick, numerous paths that have been forged where no paths should be.

They are growing in leaf litter, on earth that has not been compacted by foot traffic.

Yep - this is what the forest could be like, everywhere.
